Do you know what are the main types of graphite electrodes?

Graphite electrodes are mainly made of petroleum coke and needle coke, and coal tar pitch is used as a binder. They are made by calcination, batching, kneading, pressing, roasting, graphitization, and machining. They are released in the form of arcs in electric arc furnaces. Conductors that are heated and melted by electric energy can be divided into ordinary power, high power and ultra-high power according to their quality indicators.


Graphite electrodes mainly include four types: ordinary power graphite electrodes, anti-oxidation coated graphite electrodes, high power graphite electrodes and ultra-high power graphite electrodes.


(1) Ordinary Power Graphite Electrode

It is allowed to use graphite electrodes with a current density lower than 17A/cm2, which are mainly used in ordinary power electric furnaces for steelmaking, silicon smelting, yellow phosphorus smelting, etc.

(2) Anti-oxidation Coated Graphite Electrode

A graphite electrode coated with an anti-oxidation protective layer (graphite electrode anti-oxidant) on the surface. Form a protective layer that is both conductive and resistant to high temperature oxidation, reduce electrode consumption during steelmaking (19%~50%), prolong electrode life (22%~60%), and reduce electrode power consumption.

The promotion and use of this technology can bring the following economic and social effects:

① The unit consumption of graphite electrodes is less, and the production cost is reduced to a certain extent.

② Graphite electrodes consume less electricity, which saves electricity consumption per unit of steelmaking, saves production costs, and saves energy!

③ Since the number of replacements of the graphite electrode is less, the labor load and risk factor of the operator are reduced, and the production efficiency is improved.

④ Graphite electrode is a low-consumption and low-pollution product, which has very important social significance in today's energy conservation, emission reduction and environmental protection.


(3) High Power Graphite Electrode

Graphite electrodes with a current density of 18-25A/cm2 are allowed, and are mainly used in high-power electric arc furnaces for steelmaking.

(4) Ultra-high Power Graphite Electrodes

Graphite electrodes with a current density greater than 25A/cm2 are allowed. Mainly used in ultra-high power electric arc furnaces for steelmaking.
