Introduction

Graphite electrodes are mainly made of petroleum coke and needle coke as raw materials, and coal tar pitch as binder. They are made by calcining, batching, kneading, pressing, roasting, graphitization and machining. Electric energy is released in the form of electric arc in an electric arc furnace. The conductors that heat and melt the charge can be divided into ordinary power graphite electrodes, high power graphite electrodes and ultra-high power graphite electrodes according to their quality indicators.

Advantage

The advantages of graphite electrodes are that they are easier to process, have high EDM removal rate, small graphite loss, and are easier to shape, making them more suitable for processing large electrodes.


Processing

(1) Processing forms of graphite materials

There are three main forms of graphite electrode processing: pressure vibration method, CNC automatic forming method and mechanical processing method.

● Pressurized vibration method: The pressurized vibration method requires a special machine tool, and the electrode master mold is opposite to the electrode shape. The machine tool has a high-performance filter device, which can separate cutting fluid and graphite chips, and can ensure continuous processing for a long time. It is an ideal special equipment for graphite electrode processing, and is suitable for mold electrode processing. But its price is higher.

● CNC automatic forming method: CNC automatic forming method requires a special graphite electrode forming machine, which is an ideal special equipment for graphite electrode processing and is suitable for electrode processing for molds. But its price is higher.

● Machining method: Machining method is the main method adopted by domestic general mold production units. However, it is easy to produce ash and powder flying, which has adverse effects on processing equipment and operators.
